Sintra: a day pairing culture and Atlantic wines

On this day trip we'll head out of the city to explore the area of Sintra, located northwest of Lisbon (about 45m drive). With its beautiful natural landscape and Atlantic vineyards, Sintra is home to fabulous monuments and unique wines.

We will start the morning with a short stroll in the Sintra village and a coffee and pastry at an iconic local pastelaria. We'll visit one of Sintra's fantastic monuments: to mention a few, the Sintra National Palace (Palácio Nacional de Sintra), Quinta da Regaleira, Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena) or the Moors Castle (Castelo dos Mouros) (or other of your preference).

After visiting Sintra's monuments, we will be on our way to a wine estate in this unique region where we will tour the estate and take a wine tasting guided by a local expert. Being a mountainous natural reserve area, located very close to the sea, Sintra is home to a special microclimate that results in unique wines, shaped by the coolness of the area, its sandy soils and the salty Atlantic winds.

As lunch time approaches, we shall take a short drive to a traditional Portuguese restaurant on the seaside, with a fantastic ocean view and delicious charcoal grilled fish and shellfish. After a fine meal at a beautiful setting, we'll drive to Cascais and take a stroll along it's bay, before heading back to Lisbon with a scenic drive along the sea and the Tagus river.
