Setúbal & Arrábida Day Trip: discovering Portugal's Blue Coast
Venture beyond the city to explore one of Portugal's most beautiful coastal landscapes at the Arrábida Natural Park. See a bustling fresh produce market, have lunch at an idyllic setting over crystal-clear waters and visit a young artisanal cheese producer to taste some of the finest cheeses in the region.
On this day trip we'll start by visiting the 19th century Mercado do Livramento, a fresh produce market in Setúbal considered by many one of the best fish markets in the world. You'll get acquainted with a wide variety of fish and seafood available in Portugal and understand why Portuguese are one of the top fish consumers per capita worldwide. As lunch hour approaches, we'll try some traditional recipes at one of the market stalls, amongst locals and visitors.
After the market visit we'll take you to a historic fortress to admire the sweeping views from Arrábida Natural park over the Atlantic and the Sado estuary, followed by a leisurely lunch overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the idyllic Portinho da Arrábida.
We'll complete the day with an intimate visit and tasting at an artisanal cheese producer to meet the producers and learn how a relatively young project is combining tradition and innovation, pushing the boundaries of the Portuguese cheese industry further.
A day well spent that brings together exceptional food and artisanal producers, breathtaking scenery and the rich cultural heritage of the Setúbal Peninsula.
Note: the plan for this day trip can be altered to visit one of the renowned wineries in the region or a tile making factory, in case of preference.
