The morning · Fátima

Enter a place of devotion and reflection

At the Sanctuary of Fátima, explore the vast prayer square and the story of the three shepherd children who reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary here in 1917. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, Chapel of the Apparitions and contemporary Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity offer different expressions of faith and architecture.

There is time to experience the sanctuary at your own pace, whether you come as a pilgrim or to understand its place in Portuguese culture. Attending Mass may be possible depending on the day’s schedule.

Midday · Nazaré

Follow the road west to the sea

Continue to Nazaré, where fishing traditions remain part of the town’s identity. Walk by the beach and discover the custom of drying fish on the sand.

We usually suggest an unhurried seafood lunch here, with time to enjoy the town before climbing to Sítio for a view across the broad sweep of Nazaré’s bay.

The afternoon · Praia do Norte

See the Atlantic from the cliffs

From Sítio, look out towards Praia do Norte and the Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo. Beneath the water, the Nazaré Canyon helps create the towering waves that have made this coast famous.

The giant waves depend on season and swell, and are most likely between November and March. On calmer days, the cliffs and long Atlantic shoreline make the visit just as memorable.
