
East side to the West side - historic center and Belém
A full-day cultural tour dedicated to Lisbon's main monuments and the neighborhoods of Chiado, Baixa, Graça and Belém.
Combining neighborhood walks with short tuk-tuk rides, we'll take you to the historic center's most beautiful neighborhoods, in the areas of Chiado, Baixa, Mouraria and Graça, located on the East side of Lisbon. We'll also do a scenic tuk-tuk ride that will take us to the area of Belém, where we'll show you some of Lisbon's most relevant monuments, such as the Jerónimos Monastery, the Tower of Belém and the Discoveries Monument, located to the West side on the riverfront, where the Portuguese ships used to depart to África, Asia and the Americas.
On this full day cultural tour there will be plenty food for thought: throughout the day guests can expect to learn about different historical periods and topics, such as the ancient origins and evolution of the city of Lisbon, the Roman presence in the Iberian Peninsula, the Moorish and Arab influence in our Portuguese culture, the foundation and development of the Kingdom of Portugal, the azulejo tile art and its evolution over the centuries, the navigations during the Age of the Discoveries and the establishment of the Portuguese empire, the spice and the slave trades, the dictatorship in the XX century, the II World War and the neutrality of Portugal, the revolution of 1974, the end of the empire and the long-awaited independence of the former colonies, among other topics.
